Lance Oldstrong serious Diablo crash
On Wednesday, some time after Diablo Scott shot this photo of LanceOldStrong (Dan) at the Diablo Junction, Dan had a bad crash while descending the mountain.
He was found by another cyclist (we don't know who, but would like to know) who directed emergency personnel to the scene.
Dan has a serious head injury and was taken to emergency room.
As of today (Saturday, June 23) he is conscious, talking a bit, and even able to walk and has been moved out of ICU. That said, he is still in the hospital. The side of his face is badly swollen and he's still very much suffering the effects of his head injury. In addition, he has a lot road rash, but no broken bones.
LanceOldStrong doesn't remember the crash, so we aren't sure what happened.
He's pretty beat up, so his wife is asking for no visitors, but I know he'll be on BF reading this thread when he get's home (as soon as he finishes analyzing his Garmin data is my guess.)
Despite the seriousness of this post, in the spirit of BikeForums "But how's the bike?" mentality, I will report that his bike is only minimally damaged, a bit beat up around the left shifter.

Wow! Glad to hear that it doesn't appear to be very serious. Though quite scary. Get well soon Dan!

Joel, maybe it's my vague writing. It appears he will recover, but it is a very serious head injury. He's been in the hospital three days and they aren't letting him out yet.

Ah, that wasn't so clear. Sorry about that. I am very glad he's on the mend. Hopefully there will be no lasting issues.

Oh my. Certainly there is no such thing as a minor head injury, but hopefully he will have a full recovery. I have always enjoyed his posts and adventures and I look forward to more of the same as soon as can be.

Daniel was incredibly kind and supportive when I had my own crash & associated head trauma a few years ago. I hope his kindness is re-payed a hundredfold with a fast, complete recovery.

OK...WTF! I heard that on the news this morning and guess who I thought of?... You Guys scare the Sh*** out of me when your descending! Won't mention any names but there is a few. Have you noticed last few rides down the mountains I'm last because I'm so F*ing scared to see one of you go off a cliff. Just stop that Sh*t PLEASE!
Dan, I hope you'll be OK and nothing lasting but, DUde!...
I'm sticking to running for awhile.
