Awesome... except it's on a Tuesday so the crowd will be a little thinner than this year.

I'm guessing they'll do Sierra and Calaveras... to soften up the legs a bit first.

Here's a curious tidbit regarding Stage 4 Monterey - Cambria from KSBW:

When KSBW called Monterey city leaders for their reaction Tuesday afternoon, they said they were surprised and completely caught off guard by the decision, because they never asked to be part of the race.

Usually a city makes a pitch to Amgen organizers asking to be a stop on the race route. But Monterey spokeswoman Anne McGrath said no one in Monterey ever asked, and now city leaders are unsure how they will prepare for the big athletic event.

Yes, that sounds correct. This year it was north side of MT, so Sierra Rd will be similar. Plus it's the logical backroad way to Diablo from SJ. After Calevaras, I wonder if they would go up the San Ramon Valley corridor, or Palomares/Crow Canyon...

I hope Diablo represents again, for sure we'll be there. This should be a staple of the race every year! But one of these years, I really hope they try to go back to the Sierra/Tahoe. It's kind of embarrassing when year after year we get helicopter shots of the central valley and the lovely "oil fields of Bakersfield".

I got to marshal a section of the stage that went through Folsom last time around. Hope to do so again in '14.

I am definitely playing hooky from work this year to go see it. I was just looking at the camping reservations for Mount Diablo during that time and saw it was unavailable for that period. Does anyone know if they close the campgrounds during that week?

They were closed the on race day and the night before. That may change for 2014.

They will obviously go down Highway 1 since they are going to Cambria. The access to Hwy1 from Pebble Beach is not great for a peloton. Besides they are already going down the coast, no need for the scenery of 17 Mile Drive. Not sure where the starting point will be, but traffic will be a nightmare since Hwy1 is pretty much the only road.

That would be awesome if they start at Laguna Seca and go up Laureles Grade within the first 5 miles. OUCH. But I could not see them go through 17 mile drive.

They did Laureles Grade two years ago: https://www.strava.com/activities/589805 It is not that hard, even I can do it in less than 20 minutes.

I still think they will go down Hwy 1 to Cambria, so I am not sure they would ride Laureles Grade. That would mean going into Carmel Valley and then head back north to connect with Hwy 1. That would close off Hwy 68, Laureles Grade, Carmel Valley Road and Hwy 1. In other words, every road in the area.
