Hey, rd! I'm going to do the half-century. And with the 3 miles each way from/to my house, I'll get in my own private 100K!
See you there!

Well, I finished the "50", but it wasn't pretty. Nothing really steep, but for the most part you're either going up or down and that first up at senior-citizen speed lasts a while. The last 10 miles were a bit warm with more up & down. I'm not sure where this rates on the character building/dumb scale.

Well, that was epic.
Like rd, I rode the "50" which, with the mileage to/from my home to Foothill gave me 64 miles for the day.
I still find that climb up Hwy 9 relentless. And I really wasn't up for a second climb (yeah, I'm a wimp). And ending the ride with Elena Road is just plain cruel.
Major props to the folks who rode the Metric Century and Mega props to the Century Riders -- 113 miles with ~10,000 feet of climb! Woof!
Oh, and props as well to the Western Wheelers volunteers -- they did a splendid job!

Watching that bit up RWG makes me glad I was busy last weekend and couldn't sign up...lots of people walking up is a bad sign IMO. And listening to the audio didn't make it sound easier. I've never gone up RWG and now I think I may not bother
I need to go up HWY 9 one of these weekends to see how that is...a long grind I expect but doesn't seem worse than Montabello...I do worry more about the vehicle traffic on the way down (both car and bike since I don't tend to be a fast decender)
Congrats to those that went...putting Elena Road at the end of the ride is pretty mean, Purissima would have been nicer but I saw signs when I was out riding last week that there was a faire there so maybe that's why they avoided it?

The Sequoia Century (or any century ride with 10,000 feet of climbing for that matter) is definitely intended for people who want a challenge, or at least a good workout. Not the hardest century in California, but above average.
