Hopefully you are on here because I want to tell you again that it wasn't me who honked you. You make us cyclists look bad. And if you are ever going to confront someone in the future, you better make damn sure you got the right person, and maybe even some protection.

Back story:

I am from Sacramento and was enjoying Father's Day with my family in San Francisco(our home away from home). I was driving towards Fort Point and got to the parking lot at the end of Chrissy Field. I slowed down to a stop because a truck was backing out and fixing his parking job. As I was slowing, I glanced in my rearview mirror to see a man on a newer white Trek road bike right behind me swing out from behind onto my left before circling back and pulling up to my driver's side door. He looked kind of mad as he pulled along side me and I initially thought he may have been the impatient type who was mad because I slowed for the truck adjusting his park job. So I pointed to the truck to indicate why I slowed down. He circled back to me as I was stopped and looked like he had something to say, so I rolled down my window. He says,"Did you go to church today?" as he rolls his front wheel back and forth into my door. Confused as all hell, I said "What?" He then says, "You honked me back there!" Even more confused, I said "What?" again and told him that he was mistaken as I did not honk at anybody. He then clips back in and as he rides off I say again that it wasn't me that honked him and that I am also a cyclist. He yells out "Yeah right!"

I find it funny that I get a run in with an a-hole road cyclist when as a road cyclist myself, when driving, I take extreme caution when around other cyclist because I know exactly what it is like to be out there sharing the road with motorists.

Great first post huh? I am a long time lurker, but had to post this incase this particular cyclist is on here.

It's funny how that when we don't have our cycling gear on as when we're driving vehicles we are considered the enemy. Maybe we should always wear bike shorts and a jersey then everyone knows we're cyclists. It's the A-holes in pick ups that really scare me not the a-hole cyclists. Nice third post by the way. I think everyone here can tell stories like yours.

One more thing I just thought of. What does a person think when they just roll up to someone's vehicle and start damaging the body of the vehicle or cursing the driver? Who knows what mental condition someone is in. I'd be afraid they'd jump out and give me a big whooping. Crazy hot headed people these days! Don't be divisive in your life. That's what I learned at church yesterday and seems like a good way to live your life without trauma.
Not meaning you OP as divisive but mankind in general.

Maybe that road is a segment on Strava. However, it would be hard to look at Sunday's riders at this point.

I sometimes get pissed off at inconsiderate drivers when I am out on a ride, but I consider myself an easy going, non confrontational type of person, who is intelligent enough to know that the risk of confronting a driver is not worth my life, and I take it in stride(or stroke). Like you mentioned, you don't know the mental state of the person in the car. They already have a 2 ton four wheeled weapon, and who knows what other weapon(s) they might have in the car. I suspect that this guy was not unfamiliar to confronting motorists. Hopefully he wises up and learns to control his anger, if not he may learn the hard way.

This little event was confusing and somewhat comical at the same time. I say stay away from confrontation, but If you are feeling ballsy and want to risk your life by yelling at a total stranger because they honked at you, you better make sure you got the person who actually honked at you!

Good idea. But you are right as it is a little hard to check the day after. The guy may not have even been using Strava either.

My wife says she thinks the hot headed cyclist is probably the same in his car too!

i was riding my Trek in SF yesterday when i encountered an unusually considerate driver, he slowed down to let me get into traffic, so when i came up upon him while he was waiting on a truck to maneuver, i enquired, humorously, i thought about his religious devotion, and then thanked him for his polite honk after letting me in. he looked startled, but modestly mentioned that he hadn't done anything, or words to that effect.

anyway, i responded with a wink and a nod and a "yeah, right". a saint, the guy was a saint i tell ya.
