Rancho Cordova / Sacramento Road Bikers?

Hi all, I got into Road Biking earlier this year and took a break after my crash and made a lot of excuses after that to not ride. I got on the scale this morning and found myself at 203lbs. It's the most I've ever weighed in my life -- so time for me to get back on track. I rode my bike to work today and made a commitment to do it everyday I'm in the office. (I telecommute and drive to the bay too). Anyways, looking for a partner or two to bike with during the week and weekends. My goal is to slim down in combiniation with biking, workouts and diet. It's always easier to have a partner in crime. I'm looking for a male or female to do this with and age doesn't matter. A little about myself. I am a 30's business professional, married to a fantastic lady with a kid due next march. Ussually my wife would ride with me, but with the pregancy it isn't safe. Soo... any takers?

Also -- would consider myself a beginner rider. I have a Bianchi vio nitrone7 and just picked up shoes/shimano hybrid pedals. I have all mid or entry level gear and would be open for advice from an experienced rider.

Please let me know if you are interested.

I went through that same journey in 2008. You can do it!

There are a number of cycling clubs in the area that you can join and may help with motivation. I'm in Rancho, but time is really tight at the moment. Been spending time on the MTB on the weekends rather than the road.

Make sure you find a good route to the bike trail that runs along the river. It's a great resource. From Rancho there are a couple of places to pick it up. I use Hagan Park.

Joel didn't mention names, but look for "Hammerin Wheels" and "Cycle Folsom" for groups that are consistent with lots of rides. There are a variety of fitness levels in each, and they tend to have rides that cater to those abilities.

I've also ridden with Bike Hikers (Shon is leading their Tuesday night ride that starts from Gold River this month), Ride Calendar

The "legacy" bike clubs in Sacramento (Bike Hikers, Sacramento Wheelmen) seem to have an aging demographic, and seem to spend as much time socializing as they do riding. They are the groups that put on the Party Pardee and Sierra Century, so big ups for that, but their ride calendars seem to be a little sparse compared to the Internet-age clubs like HW and CF. Those legacy clubs are very welcoming though, little attitude, and probably a good place to start riding with a group.

Joel is the poster child for changing his life for the positive. Listen to him. He is a great resource. You can do it too.

Well, considering I'm just shy of 5'7" tall... I weighed in at 210 pounds. Sleep apnea, borderline diabetic, high blood pressure, the usual weight related issues. That first year I dropped 68 pounds. It was a bit much. I'm settled in now at 150. Been at this weight for several years.
