Chap from London, England, needs some help!
Hello from across the pond!
I have been looking for a 1999 blue Specialized Stumpjumper for the better part of 6 years - and finally one is for sale on Craigs List in Seattle (my apologies if I am not allowed to post links):
Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Vintage 1999
I have sent two emails but not had a reply - I wondered whether anyone on this forum knows the seller? We don't have Craigs List over here, but I understand it is a local service really. In my email I provided links to me at work and on LinkedIn to show I am a genuine human being, and that I am happy to organise delivery, but I can understand my emails may have been considered spam.
I can't give up though - just look at it! To my eyes, the perfect hardtail. First saw it in Evans - the main London bike store - in 1999 but couldn't afford it then. The advert's price is not what you would call cheap, but if it is minty then worth it to me.
Any help or advice gratefully received.
Best wishes,
Fred
PS sorry if you have seen this note on the MTBR forum - I am trying both forums in the hope someone can help.

Great classic bike for sure! It's in the Lacey area, south of Seattle. I don't know the seller and it's kind of hard to know who is selling it as CL is anonymous by nature. Usually people go to CL to keep the sales local, so IMHO I'm guessing the seller doesn't want to bother on packing and shipping. I pinged the person just to see if it's available but also see if they respond since they didn't for you.

My local Bike shop deals a Lot with Bikes of Touring Cyclists .. well before collecting and assembling it Himself, last week
a Fellow had shipped his Bike from Home In Wales ..
the inverse.. is People finishing a tour and leaving their bike and some of their Gear , and leave a Credit card Slip .
the shop packs it , for $50. and adds the actual UPS costs when the Monthly Bill from UPS comes in..
[I'm in Astoria Oregon, not Seattle]
So, perhaps You can make arraignments to Pay the Seller (Pay Pal? ) , and have them drop the Bike off at one of the Seattle Bike shops,
then make arraingements with them for the Packing and shipping billing, separately ..

Thanks - that is a good thought. Step one is for the seller to reply to someone - anyone! But then a bike shop handling the shipping makes perfect sense.

No luck yet from the seller. Just sent another email and if no response, I would continue looking. Unfortunately the only contact is via CL's email which again is anonymous and some seller's leave a contact number or alternative email. Crossing my fingers later today for a response...

I have had a reply from the seller! Admittedly a brief one, but a response nonetheless. I will let you know what happens - and thank you again for your help.

All quiet again now! Aside from the one very brief reply, sadly I have heard nothing more. Quite strange, given the price! What did your replies say? And thanks again for your help.

I think bob is right. Not to rain on your parade, but I don't think you shouldn't limit your search to just the one bike
as there are plenty of comparable bikes to be had. I picked up this Giant Boulder off Cl in mint condition for $35.
The bike itself is sound, but it had some shoddy components. They were easy to replace given how little I paid.
Shown here is what it looked like when purchased. It has now been customized into a great back country tourer.
with a 2 bolt bar clamp on the stem, quality crankset & cassette, far better shifters, & racks fore and aft. If you
cant find the bike you're looking for, build the one you want.

The ad is still up, and I'm not surprised, he's asking a lot more than I'd expect for bike like that. I'd think he'd be lucky get half that.
having said that, I will be in Lacey on 10 May to help my daughter move back home from college for the summer. I may have time to check it out, if it's your hearts desire. I'm good at packing bikes, too.
