North Cascades Highway closing for the weekend. Might re-open.
From the Methow Valley News:
NORTH CASCADES HIGHWAY CLOSED FOR WEEKEND, MAY REOPEN NEXT WEEK
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced on Thursday (Nov. 17) that the North Cascades Highway will be closed temporarily beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday (Nov. 18) and through the weekend, because of storms forecast for Friday and Saturday nights. WSDOT said it will reassess conditions on Monday (Nov. 21) and either plow the road for Thanksgiving traffic, or close it for the winter. A major concern, WSDOT said, is that catchment basins (ditches) below some of the snow chutes near the Washington Pass summit are already full and any additional snow will cause slides that will land on the road
Bummer. I was hoping to get up to Easy Pass this weekend. Wouldn't bet on it reopening until mid spring. They close the road for avalanche danger, not because it can't be plowed.
