I watched and waited from the Hyak area. My plan was to look north from the shore of Gold Creek Pond, but the pond was literally steaming into the cold air. You couldn't see the mountains from the trailhead. I set up on the paved road. Somebody in a pickup truck stopped to ask if I'd seen anything.

But no auroras.

This was the view that night.
