Seattle one-day tours?

Hey everyone!

As a last minute mini trip, I'll be coming up to Seattle this Thurs-Sat. I would like to spend a full day riding around, as this will be my first time in the Pacific NW, and what better way to learn a city than by bike?

I plan to just rent a bike and cruise around the city. Can anyone recommend a good route that encompasses different areas of the city/outlying areas, especially one with some good picture opportunities? Preferably one that stays mostly on low traffic roads and/or bike paths.

Wow, that's a tall order. But, there's two main opportunities. One is the Burke-Gilman Trail, which starts more or less in Ballard (that's the Northwest end), where you could start by visiting the locks. It doesn't officially start in Ballard, and it's a tough connection, but nice to see the locks. BG goes all the way over to Woodinville.

The other option is the southern end of Seattle, the Interurban/Green River Trails. The ride along the Green River portion is pleasant enough, but I think you would probably do better on the BG.

Plus, you could try for a meet and greet with quite a few BF members doing the BG :) . The RedHook brewery is a popular place to stop...

Sounds great! I don't mind riding in traffic (I do daily here), but just wanted something enjoyable while on vacation. But if traffic gets me to better picture opportunities, then bring it on. ;)

Burke Gilman, then. You can start in Ballard, at the Locks (great photo ops!), go through Fremont (don't miss the troll under the Fremont Bridge), to Gas Works Park (on Lake Washington), past the UW, then go through some nice neighbourhoods on your way to Woodinville.
