Washington County, OR Traffic Awareness Day
For those of you in that neck of the woods. It looks like they need volunteers and possibly more businesses who will host their signs.

Awareness Day! We have multiple locations on the westside that need volunteers for both the a.m. and p.m. drive times to hold signs and increase awareness of bicycles on our roadways. I'll be a team leader at the location at Hwy 26 & Cornell, from 7am to 9am. I have one confirmed volunteer and need 3 more. There are other locations as well that need colunteers. As Zach suggested, please check out http://www.andwebike.com and contact Hal Ballard (contact info on the website) if you can help out in the a.m. or p.m. Thanks for your support!! Bicycle Transportation Coalition, Bike Gallery, City of Beaverton, Portland Velo, etc. etc. As most of you know, this past June, Tim O'Donnell, 66, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle with a group of friends. This tragedy brought increased attention to the safety of cyclists using Washington County roads. Tim's wife, Mary, established a memorial fund to address this problem. The Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA), working with the Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition (WashCo BTC), is spearheading an effort to increase awareness of these serious safety issues. The campaign will include life-sized cutouts of people with their bikes that will remind motorists that bicyclists are their relatives, friends, coworkers and neighbors "and we bike". The cutouts will be placed around in front of businesses and community gathering spots around the county. The message is, "Be careful; the cyclist could be someone you know." This campaign includes a Traffic Awareness Day on Tues, Sept 18th and a Complete Tim's Ride event on Sat, Sept 22nd as well as many other actitivies. We are looking for volunteers for a variety of venues, dates, and locations. Check out the web site for more info: http://www.andwebike.com to volunteer or get involved. Thanks!
