Novelty Hill Rd.

I don't ride much in King County, but want to ride from Everett to the Sammamish Plateau.

Was thinking of taking High Bridge road to W Snoqualmie Valley Road, up NE Novelty Hill Rd and then down either 208th or 196th and then across the Redmond Fall City Road.

Novelty Hill Road looks like it's fairly well travelled, how is it for cyclists? Same for any of these other roads. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Novelty Hill Rd isn't too bad for cyclists. There's a nice bike lane that keeps you safe and the drivers aren't too crazy.

There's good riding up here on the plateau. Lots of hills.

Redmond-Fall City road (202) sometimes seems filled with inconsiderate jackstrap drivers, but there aren't that many other good options if you're heading southeast from Redmond towards Fall City and North Bend.

Take a look at the Flying Wheels route - it seems made to order for getting from Everett to the Plateau. You just have to get to Snohomish to pick up the route.

I have not gone up the east side of Novelty Hill, because my wife convinced me not to. I was doing a loop in the area involving Carnation and Duvall, returning to Union Hill. Her and her brother (they grew up near Carnation Farms) said that drivers tend to fly down Novelty Hill on that side rather recklessly. Does the bike lane go on that part of the hill now?

Instead, coming from Duvall I went up NE Woodinville-Duvall road the short distance to NE Old Woodinville Duvall road. It was kind of hairy, but once I got off the main road and onto 232nd it was great. That would get you up higher on Novelty.

Hope that made sense.
