Daffodil Classic?
 

Anyone planning on riding the Daffodil Classic on April 13th, in Orting, WA?

I'll be riding the full century and heading out as close to the 7:00am starting time as possible.

I'm seriously considering it. Depends on my travel schedule that week.

I have a question -- apparently to do a century you do their 40 mile loop, then the 60 mile loop. I was thinking about the century, too....does anyone know which loop is "harder" (e.g., hillier)? Obviously the 60 mile loop is longer, but if possible I would like to do the hillier loop first and the less hilly loop second.

I sent an email to the TWBC asking about the century route and interchange-ability of the loops.

Oh, I should check this one out! I should be back from California in time...I'll have to take a closer look.

I would certainly be up for the 60 mile, if not the century.

We plan to do the 60 on the tandem. Should be fun.

It all depends on the final route that TWBC decide to roll out this year. They changed the course last year to blend better with the traffic patterns. I did the 60 mile loop last year. This route takes you out towards Kapowsin with a nice climb up to Kapowsin Lake and another into Eatonville. If I remember correctly, the 60 mile route offered the largest elevation gain due to those two climbs, but I don't remember the exact amount. I've never done the Bonney Lake route, but have done bits a pieces of it during various training rides in the Southend. In my opinion, this is more of a rolling course with the only major climb out of South Prairie. Hope this helps.

It's a big help, since I haven't heard back from TWBC. Regardless of where the hills are, I'm going to be there and I'm going to ride the century.

Anyone know when the event starts? The webpage says registration is open from 7:00am-12:00pm, but does not give an official start time.

You can roll across the start line anywhere between 7am and noon. They run a course sweeper starting at 4 or 5pm. (I think I read that the course closes at 5pm.)

I've taken to running outside to do the gardening any time the rain stops for more than five minutes lately.

Let's just say that the work is progressing very slowly!

If Orting wasn't so darn far away and if gas weren't so pricey I would love to. Right now I have the Sandhill Crane festival on Saturday, its only 25 miles but there should be a few folks from my area.
Close eye on the weather reports, KXLY says 39 and possible showers, Yahoo says 50 degrees. I think I like yahoo more now.

I hope it's not snowing for the Daffodil. I'd hate to see what kind of slowpoke time I'd roll for a century on 35mm Innova studs.

Fortunately, it's all gone now, but it was a shock when I opened the door this morning to check out the riding weather :eek: .

The routes are interchangeable-no problem. It doesn't matter at all which loop you choose to ride first. I'm attaching elevation profiles of the routes. If you would like to speak with someone about the routes, please give me a call.

I heard back today, and when I get the elevation profiles I'll post them (she forgot to attach them to the email) :) Since things are interchangeable, if more people are interested in the 60 miler I'd gladly ride that loop first if that's where everyone is going to be headed.

I just checked the long-range weather forecast for the weekend and it looks GREAT. I am traveling this week and won't have much time to ride...but I am planning to do the century on Sunday. 60-mile loop first, and then 40-mile loop second.

The elevation profiles are now posted on the Tacoma Wheelmen Bicycle Club website.

I'm planning the 60/40 century, too. I'm glad the rain looks like it will break for Sunday. Let's hope it stays that way.

I haven't yet registered, but I do plan on being there early. Probably just ride the 60 mile loop. I will have the Sachs (naturally):

I'll be riding the 60 mile loop first, (seems to be the popular choice,) and showing up for the 7am start time.
I'm tough to miss in a crowd. 6'6" tall, 235 pounds, full beard, and I'm riding this (but maybe with a handlebar bag and a seat wedge, instead of the rack trunk):

I am aiming for the 7 am start of the 60-miler. I'm taller than East Hill; shorter than CliftonGK1 (THAT doesn't narrow it down much, does it?).
