Bike rental in Eugene, Oregon ?

My son and I are going to be in Eugene this week looking at the U of O. We can't take bikes in the vehicle we're driving, so are interested in renting bikes for a look around the campus + some of the local bike paths. Not looking for a serious workout, but would like to rent something that isn't typical "rental shop" junk.

Any suggestions of where we should go?

Thanks

Paul's Bicycle Way of Life has rental bikes, call them to see what's available. Most of the rentals are at the 5th Street store 541-344-4105. Other than that I'm not sure who may have rental bikes.

I'd be happy to take you on a tour around town. The River trail system is near the U of O and offers 22 miles along the Willamette River. The Fern Ridge Bike Path starts at the end of 15th Street (at the fair grounds) and goes west to the West Eugene Wetlands area.

Thanks for the tips, and the offer. I had seen Paul's on the web, but your recommendation helps me narrow the search.

As for the ride -- our schedule is still in flux. Guess it will depend on whether, too. I'm also going to try to get my son to agree to "letting" me take a quick tour of the Bike Friday factory while we're in town, too.

Send me a PM if you have time for a ride, I can show you some hidden treasures.

Follow-up on Eugene Rental

Hi.. We are going to be in Eurgene next Sunday and want to spend the day touring about like you did. We also don't like to rent "beaters"-we want something decent too. So how did it work out for you at Paul's for rental?. Have any suggestions based on your experience?
Thanks for your post. Hope you can help us.

Hi folks,
If I read your post right you're hitting Eugene this weekend, right? While I've never rented a bike from Paul's, I've purchased more than one bike from them and have always been treated very well by their staff. What I've seen walking past their rental bikes looks to be well cared for and mostly of the "hybrid" variety. They are also in close proximity to our river bike bath and should carry the free map of bike paths and bike friendly routes that the city prints up. If you want to rent something a bit more exotic, the Center for Appropriate Transport and their associated bike recycle shop have some fun looking custom built recumbents/trikes but they might be a bit pricey. If you are looking to find any entertainment in town, just look for the bright red paper boxes containing the Eugene Weekly, and you should be able to find something that tickels your fancy. Have an enjoyable visit to our little city/big town.:thumb:
