Good Bike Shop in Corvallis, Or.?
Visiting the Grandsons and see one of their bikes needs some tuneup. Any recommendation for Corvallis shops?
|
Corvallis has several good bike shops. I have used Bike-N-Hike and have been impressed with Peak Sports staff on hand. Both are with in walking distance of each other, so see if one of them is more back logged then the other if time is an issue. One note about Peak, they of moved their bike store in a separate location of their main sporting goods. It one just block south of the main store.

Four of the five bike shops are within walking distance of each other on 2nd and 3rd streets downtown. The fifth one (Full Cycles) is close to the OSU campus on Monroe.
Bike-n-Hike (Giant, Kona, ...) Cyclotopia (Cannondale, Jamis, Burley,...) Corvallis Cyclery (Trek,...) Peak Sports (Trek, Specialized,...) They all do good reliable work in my opinion, but I am partial to Cyclotopia for personalized service. Even though it is a smaller shop than the others, it is run hands-on by the owner (Mike) who does the bulk of the work himself along with another seasoned mechanic and a couple of part-timers. The other LBS's do offer a wider range of bikes and bike accessories. Keep in mind that this is the busy season for bike shops and you may have to call around to find out who can fit you in for a tune-up at short notice. |
I agree with the comments posted above, but would add that for general, everyday bicycling needs (commuter, mtb, road, as well as specialty - tandem and recumbent) that I've been most pleased with Corvallis Cyclery. They have an excellent on-hand parts inventory. If you are looking for a more flashy hi-zoot road shop, there really isn't one of those in Corvallis. That said I also have had good service and experiences at Cyclotopia, B&H and Peak. The fact that these shops are all near each other is a real plus.
I'm not personally familiar with Full Cycles, but noticed they've been very supportive of the local racing teams and events and are competitive with some web bike shops for parts. On a negative note though, a friend visited them was ignored when he dropped in the shop. They never came out from the service area to greet him. He left and has never been back. I still plan to stop by their shop at some point, but it's off my normal travel patterns. When I lived in Eugene 20 years ago I used Collins. Now I seem to find myself going to Paul's first. Good Luck. Tailwinds to all! |
Thanks for all the suggestions. We'll head downtown and see who can do a quick tune-up for us in short order. I agree about Collins in Eugene. When my son was growing up Pauls was one of his favorite places go hang out.
