Route 821 Yakima to Ellensburg Canyon Road ???

Greetings,
Looking for a small ride east of the Cascades where it might be drier this Memorial day weekend. Just from looking on a map, up and back on Canyon Road route 821, between Yakima and Ellensburg looks interesting.

Has anybody ridden this route ? Safe and suitable for bikes? Decent ride? Any response or other ideas for a 70 - 100 mile ride where it might be a bit more sunny than in Seattle this weekend is appreciated.

Thanks

Its ok but I would avoid it this coming holiday weekend. Unless you're comfortable with narrow shoulders and big RVs and occasional fast drivers, its a great ride. You missed the Canyon ride by a week though if you wanted the entire road!

There are a couple of nice, empty roads from Cle Elum to Ellensburg and back. Or to save the downhill for last Ellensburg to Cle Elum.

The Manastash Metric route is a nice ride.

I rode the canyon out and back this last weekend: had minimal issues, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Next to zero traffic, no RVs of any size, no fast drivers. And this was the day BEFORE the organized ride. Anyplace nice is going to be a mess on a holiday weekend, so either leave the bike at home, or be prepared for traffic.

Living in Ellensburg - this is definitely a nice route. Drive to Cle Elum and make the circle from there.
SR 821 - Canyon RD. I typically avoid it on the weekends in the summer because of the traffic. Semi-trucks are not allowed on the road in the summer. Traffic has been light on the road because of the flippin' cold weather. Travelling the road during the week is better.

The nice thing about the Kittitas Valley is there are hundreds of miles of pave county roads with little to no traffic.

I like to ride it from Ellensburg...headwind on the way out, tailwind on the way back to Ellensburg!
