does anyone know why it is called this? i have a great grandfather who was there, but killed there. family went back to MS.

In Portland? No particular reason that I know of. There are also Montana and Delaware streets in North Portland.

There are some state streets down in SW Portland also.

And quite a few on our side of the river, too. Around Vancouver Heights I see: Utah, Idaho, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Carolina, Delaware...

Mississippi Ave. in Portland parallels Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Montana, and Maryland. I sense a theme...

I used to live on Nevada in SW Portland back in the day. The big one down there is Vermont. There's an Idaho down there too.

Of course there's also Oregon Street in NE.

Oh, and Washington Street. SE and SW.
