Their gran fondo route leaves a bit to be desired, There were much nicer options that avoid the lousy (unnecessarily dangerous too) portion between Lorane and Drain. Oh well, it is their first time doing it, so hopefully they will get better at selecting routes in future years.

I agree and I was a little surprised with the Lorane to Drain road, but it should be better with a large cycling group taking over. It is also not a very long section of the route, so we should be there and gone before too many mad drivers are on the road. The good thing is that we can ride the upper Smith River road, so that's where the goods begin. I would hope for a bit of traffic control support from the Sheriff, however the political direction of the Lane County commissioners will most likely rule that out. I'm looking forward to the event, lot's of good buzz from everyone I know here, so hopefully it will be a fun event and a boost for Cottage Grove, who seem to be seeing cycling as a great thing for their community....I like that!

I gotta say, I can't wait to ride the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes again. It was a blast last year.

The Lilac century looks inviting. Anyone know what the course is?

I rode the grade (Old Spiral Highway; Lewiston, ID) last weekend. Not part of any organized event, just a friend and myself ticking off a climb. The contours of the land really play with the wind. Some areas were practically dead calm and then you come around a bend and a gust just hits you in the face. Overall very fun and definitely worth doing again.
