Sad day on the Sammamish River trail today

My friend and I usually stick to the Everett/Snohomish area for our rides, since we live in Everett. But today we decided to start at Marymoor Park and take the Sammamish River trail to the Burke-Gilman, just to change things up. About 5 miles in we came across a police car on the trail. Very odd indeed. We slowed as we approached and found a poor individual lying on the side of the path, under a white sheet. His/her bike was lying in the grass with a helmet. In our brief look at the scene we saw no obvious damage to the bike or helmet that would indicate a cycling related accident. Our best guess is that maybe they had stopped and had a medical complication that ultimately ended their life. Needless to say, the mood of our ride changed immediately. Instead of the 60 miles we set out to do, we cut it down to 40.

Don't forget to hug your loved ones and tell them that you love them before EVERY ride. You just never know...

We rode by at 9:07am according to my gps.
The fire dept was still performing cpr on the guy when we went by.
I think he was a solo rider and some other riders found him.

I too rode on the Sammamish Trail today. Very sad news and my thoughts go out to the rider's family and friends.

I saw the scene too. The fire department was performing CPR as I went by. Sad sad day indeed. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

That is how I want to go. Out riding my bike, gray hairs flying and then--whump. And he managed to not endanger others, good man.
