Manastash Metric - cancelled

Due to the heavy smoke from wildfires that started on Sept 8th in the hills north of Ellensburg the organization sponsoring the ride has decided to cancel it for 2012 because of safety concerns. While it's a week early and the smoke could clear the organizers felt they needed to make a decision by today to allow enough time to contact all who have registered.

Guess we'll be waiting until 2013 to do it again.

Yeah bummer, guess I'll go to the west side with my son and the Ellensburg Spandex Mafia Team Recycle Shop to MFG Cyclocross instead. There is some discussion within the organizers of putting on a ride next spring, if I hear anything more substantial than just this rumor I'll post it here.

That's a shame, always a fun, well-done ride.

Has anyone heard if anyone is planning on doing the ride unsupported anyway. I looked at the cams in the area , it looks much better.

I coach my girls soccer team and they're supposed to play at noon at the fields where the ride started last year. As long as the air continues to remain clear I'm planning on riding the route starting around 1:30 pm. The route map and cue sheet are on the ride's web site for the changes this year due to Hwy 10's closure.

edit - hmm, might be tight. Team photos at 1:50 - that would make a pretty late start.

Air quality this morning is at unhealthy levels with a good solid smoke haze in the valley. Guess it was the right call.
