This thread on nwhikers is absolutely worth reading, for anybody considering a trip up that way. I'm posting this here on BikeForums because Highway 542 is a delightful ride on a road bike. There's speculation the road will be bare, on and off, for much of the next month as we transition into winter. Bikes were allowed on the closed road to Chinook Pass on Mt Rainier when I did that ride, it was on an "at your own risk" basis. I'm not sure if that would be the case on Mt Baker, but that would be my expectation.

This is what my May ride up Mt Baker looked like - I guess we get four or five months a year of snow free access:

The road is only closed to vehicles. Artist Point itself is open year-round. Even when the gates are closed you can ride up there if you dare!

In Washington, bicycles are vehicles.

According to the website:

It's important to note that we do not close Artist Point, but rather the road to Artist Point. Artist Point the location is open year round. We close the road when the weather conditions force us to do so. We usually end up closing it after the first substantial snowfall, which can come in late September or early October.
