Mt Tabor Night Rides

Just moved to Portland last month. It's hot now. Anyone doing night loops at Mt Tabor? Seems safe enough more so than doing Skyline or something like that.

I don't, but one of riding friends routinely rides Tabor in the evenings. There's even a day where all car traffic is closed entirely, I just can't remember which one. I get the impression that Tabor is a relatively safe place to ride the majority of the time.

Rocky Butte makes a good alternative when you're ready to change it up a bit.

Thanks. I rode it last night for an hour. Was pretty rad. The docents were pretty scary though but I had a blast climbing.

Rocky Butte or Mount Tabor? Both have multiple options for going up and down.

The north side of Rocky Butte is much more gradual and makes a nicer descent. It's very easily looped back around to the steeper south side for climbing.

I rode Tabor since it's a bit closer to my place and I am more familiar with it.

The descent on Tabor that goes around the big reservoir is really nice and it loops right back in to the steeper climb. It's the road through the gate if you're coming down from the very top.

That would be Wednesday. But also note during early summer there is the Mt. Tabor series races.

They're over by now, though.

Sweet I'll try that next time. The times I've gone I go up by the garden and then just come back down the same way. The roads are rough at times and the gate at the bottom was locked which is a bit sketchy.
