I suffered frequent attacks in my younger years, age 12 to 24 (now 57) in my great toe and various digits. I then got on meds to curb my over production of uric acid and the attacks subsided. My rheumatologist felt that diet didn't really have an influence--you either over-produce or under-excrete. I was the former. I stopped taking my meds under chiropractic treatment in 1994 (age 34) and the gout just disappeared. I'm no longer under chiro care (stopped 1998) but haven't had any attacks since. Maybe chiro fixed something? I think my eating and exercise habits are the same, except now I've training for mtb racing the last 5 years or so (started well after the end of the gout attacks). So, why did it go away? Gout is quite a mystery I guess.

My cure may or may not work for someone else, but I hope it does.
I've had gout since I was in my early 30s (I'm in my mid-50s now), but have had few/no symptoms for about 8-9 years now. I'm allergic to Allopurinol (found out the hard way, ended up in the ER 2x). From my early 30s until my mid-40s it got progressively worse, until I was taking a prednisone taper 4x/year, used a cane 3 days/month, and couldn't drink alcohol or eat meat or cheese! While I was in Suriname a colleague took me to a naturopathic doc. The doc prescribed lots of hokum designed to sell herbal pills, vitamins, etc. But the one thing that has worked miracles was his prescription to buy and drink STINGING NETTLE TEA loose leaves and drink 2x/day. You can buy a 1LB bag on Amazon for about $20, will last 3-4 months. I also take 80mg Uloric (febuxostat)/day. The tea helps and the Uloric help, but neither stops symptoms entirely. But together they have kept me almost 100% symptom-free since 2010. I can drink whiskey, eat steak, cheese, etc. My rheumatologist says she doesn't understand it fully, but the tophi deposits in my finger joints have actually steadily dissolved over the past few years.

Allupurinol for the past 2 decades. I'm not giving up meat when a pill takes care of it perfectly, and my doctors have told me I'm really not likely to be helped by diet.
Haven't had a flare up once since I started the pills, and I used to get them constantly. Absolutely could not sleep from the burning pain.

Started suffering from gout 7 years ago. As it coincided with breaking my back, at first docs thought it was residual nerve damage. FInally, during a severe flare up, I was given 2 tablets Colchicine, and a third an hour later. GONE... Had a couple more, same routine andworked each time. Since then, I had been on Indomethacine daily, and started daily doses of Colchicine 20 months ago, after achilles tendon repair. I am prepping for bariatric surgery, gastric sleeve, and I was taken off the Indomethacin, and doubled my Colchicine dose, and started on Allopurinol. My Uric acid levels are back in normal ranges, though just barely. But I feel better overall...

I've been on Allopurinol for about 15 years, keeps gout under control pretty well. I'm still avoiding the unhealthy stuff, though. I'm glad to hear your course of treatment is working out.
