recovery from femoral artery stents -(this week) any other cyclists experience
Hey fellow riders,
I was diagnosed with PAD, and some bad femoral artery blockages that required surgery and stenting, so as I lay here - planning my recovery so I can ride (not race) - up Mt Washington in late August of '23 for my 65th birthday year ( and 4th time up it) - I am hoping to connect with other cyclists who have had a similar experience.
PAD effects the legs - and is short for peripheral artery disease, basically my body wants to turn my arteries into bone - some genetic components, some environmental- I was (am) - a NASM personal trainer, Spin instructor, former racer into my 40's - I retired a few years ago, and then got back to serious riding about 18 months ago - then developed symptoms over the spring/summer.
The good news is the surgery seems like it was very successful - (only been 5 days) - but already my left foot isn't ice cold and numb, and I'm looking forward to slowly getting back on the bike come May-ish? time frame - (hopefully sooner indoor trainer)
So- putting it out there in hope that there are others who have had similar medical issues and what they did for recovery planning
