So, has anyone seen these in the wild? they are such an outlier. Has carbon cheapened that much, or they just decided to glue some shavings together?

Opposite for me. They look like literal cardboard cut-outs cursed to a single use. Can't commute on it, can't do a beer run, can't be beaten up on at a ride or for traffic slashing.

Crosschecks are great. Last of a breed; a basic reliable bike. Easier to get than a vintage roadie, so it has that going for it.
