I catch him making mistakes sometimes, but after 40 plus years, he's allowed.....and covering it year after year, he does indeed know a treasure trove of information.....

Sometimes? He makes them every segment, ok probably not and I admit, he seemed better this past year at the tour, but those of you who like him, have you listened to the Eurosport announcers? They've covered races all over and have race in the pro peleton themselves, IMO they are heads and shoulders above anyone on NBC/Universal except Paul, Paul is right up there.

I like the commentary by Sean Kelly. He really knows what is going on and what is going to happen next.

Phil and Paul are decent, I like their voices and if you're paying attention, you'll usually catch the mistakes anyway.

After all, they are sitting in a box watching the same TV feed that you are. Sure, they are listening to race radio and have the start list with rider numbers handy, and they have a wealth of experience including familiar with the routes, but as far as following what is going on at the moment, you don't really need the commentators.

and my impression is, the screen they are watching isn't that big - you may have a better view on a bigger screen

Yeah, but their screen isn't pixelated, freezing, and serving them malware . . .

I've been watching the Tour Down Under on Universal HD ch#569 on DirecTV. Although, it is part of an HD package upgrade.

They also have World Cup track cycling and the world cyclocross championships on this weekend.

Wow thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize it was on. Just updated my DVR

I do as well. I pull for American riders and they do a great job covering from an American fan standpoint.

I have Universal HD but I encountered an issue when I set the DVR to record the Tour Down Under. The recording cut out after about 30 minutes. It happened twice so I have no idea what's going on but it is frustrating.

I've honestly never heard of that. It must be yet another channel that only satellite operators carry. USN was hard enough to find.

Universal HD is also available on some cable providers. I get it from Comcast in Houston. Ironically, I don't get Universal Sports, so I had to pay for it on SlingTV to watch a lot of cycling last year. So I should actually save some money since this year I should be able to watch more cycling on UHD and NBCSN.

I just wish the NBC Sports Live app had an option to 'cast' to a TV (or a Roku channel). Watching TV on a tablet sucks IMHO.

I use Chrome on my Windows laptop and then cast to my Chromecast from the NBCSports website.

for some of those things that I can only get on the phone or tablet, I just use a Lightning-HDMI adapter cable to connect to the tv
