Tour de France spectating advice .
Hey all
For the first time this year i will go to France to see the TdF , i already have my travel route and hotel in place , and is now planning the 2 days i want to see , and need some spectator advise.
At what time on the day do one have to be in the spot you want before the road closes for spectators ??
I am not talking about getting the best spot , just at what time does the road close for spectators to drive on the route ??
Brian

Wish I could.
Only advice I can give is to go to a tourist office once you're in the area and ask for info. I've found them very helpful but you need to be in the area you're enquiring about. Concentrate on stage 19, Saint-Gervais is the town but looks like the stage ends 11km away at a ski station. You probably will need to get to S-G early in the morning and walk up to a viewing point and wait for hours...best of luck.
Stage 20 is in the same area so expect you will be able to tap into lots of local knowledge on the Friday.
Sorry couldn't help more but maybe someone else here can.

when they close the roads varies. Sometimes, you can't drive up major climbs at all the day of the race. Others, its still possible 3 hours or so before he race comes through that point.
Best way to do this is on bike. Park off the course, Ride up the big climb of the day, pack a picnic and wait for the race to come through. Also much easier to get home after the race than in a car.
Typically, you can ride very shortly after the race comes through, while cars are still being held up.

Howdy,
Don't forget about increased security this year. More in the start and finish areas
then out on the road. Tickets are a requisite for those venues.
