Ads/Commercials

Been watching the TDF for 45 minutes. A good 40 minutes has been ads. I'm loosing interest.

Besides that, what are these cyclists thinking with their jerseys unzipped. Must drive the sponsors crazy.

Ok another commercial. I have better things to do. What a waste of time.

I sympathize. I watch on Sportsnet in Canada and the other day they accidently included some bike racing between commercials. Ok I'm exaggerating a bit but up here if it's not hockey the sports broadcasters don't seem interested in providing good coverage, they'll cut away at the most inopportune times and recently pulled away in the final few hundred meters of a sprint.

I watch on Eurosport and they have a two minute add break about every ten minutes until the last 10km or so. Also have a terrestrial station here in Ireland that broadcasts the Tour with an Irish language commentary and as their add breaks are out of sync with Eurosport's I can mostly get uninterrupted coverage by switching back and forth.

UK Eurosport is much worse with regard to ads than Eurosport International. Both in volume and duration

The only sporting thing USA broadcasters know it's football. They think they can pull the same crap and people will still watch it

DVR is key to enjoying the TDF for me. I usually fast forward until the last 20 miles. As you are fast forwarding through the first part of the race you can see how things change and slow down to watch anything interesting.

Since cutting the cord, my only option is to watch online using steephill or cycling fans, where I pick up the Eurosport feed (and who knows what malware/virus). I watch it on a second screen while "working", with my speakers turned way down. I don't find the commercials too obnoxious. There are a few stages on broadcast NBC that I'll record...no way I can stand to watch them live with the amount of commercials, especially in the first several hours...but appreciate that the last hour is usually pretty commercial free.

Video clips on steephill are all I need. Sometimes all I want to see is the few minutes of the sprint finish, sometimes I want to view much longer segments. I definitely do not have the time to watch the many hours of each stage unless it's something epic.

I've been watching the TdF on ITV4. The limited commercials aren't a problem. I like the Skoda commercials.

ITV4 for me too - I watch the nightly highlights on the ITV hub which has ads every 15 mins, but it's usually one of two short ones.

Probably the same thing I think when I am riding: I'm hot and sweaty and could use the fresh air and my sponsor would rather have their logo on the podium than my shirt zipped up for those dozen spectators on that switchback on the hill...

(OK, maybe that last point isn't exactly what I think while riding. My sponsors, aka myself, know I'm getting nowhere near a non-existent podium )

The Skoda commercials are hilarious! That said, I still think they have quite a bit of commercials, at least on Sunday which is the only day I've sat down and watched the live coverage for any length of time.

Should do what they do for the Indy and NASCAR races, and do the picture in picture for commercials.
