Phil Liggett not on NBC Sports Gold App?

Sorry if this has been asked already, but the NBC Sports Gold App isn't using the Liggett feed? That kinda makes me mad. I watched it live on the app yesterday and am watching Stage 2 now. I assume Liggett is on the NBC Sports TV coverage?

Yes that seems to be the case this year. Last year Phil and Paul came on in the last 50km of each stage but this year they don't call any of the race on the app. I've always loved them, but I have to admit I really like Robbie and Mathew.

I have to say it's more worth it to me to spend the money and get the app and see non stop coverage then to watch commercials with a few minutes of a race in between them. Even if I don't get to listen to Phil and Paul anymore.

ya I am bummed about it as Paul and Phil are the voice of summer for me. I do like Matthew and Robbie though and love the non stop coverage.

It makes me happy as a clam.

I'm sick of Phil and Paul's dundering on mic not knowing the route (seriously, knowing where the intermediate Sprints is-is something in the handbook) and always getting rider's names wrong. There comes a time to retire, and they're past it.

Yes. The time for a new generation is long past.

A few Aussie pronunciations are grating (Chaves is making his Tour day-boo, for instance) but that's okay. Robbie and Mathew are pretty good. I like getting commentary at a level that's not geared for novice Americans watching a few days of World Tour a year.

If I'm paying $39.99 to subscribe to cycling, I probably don't need to hear for the 1,000th time that riders in the draft can save 30% of their energy.

Yes they are the voice of the summer for me too. But the handwriting was on the wall last year when they weren't doing the whole broadcast.

From NBC Sports Gold: "For the 2017-2018 Tour De France, Matthew Keenan and Robbie McEwen will be doing the entire live stream for NBC Sports Gold Cycling which includes 30+ bonus hours---every minute of every stage." Personally I like and miss Paul and Phil, bumbling and all (and yes, they have been getting progressively worse for years).

What REALLY irritates me is I can't log in to watch the race replay without seeing the day's result right in my face "Rider X wins Stage 3 today!!". Well, what's the point of watching now?

This. It's ridiculous. I emailed their support about it Sunday, but haven't heard anything.

Are you using an app or a computer? I've used the iPad app and I don't see that.

I actually am upset that there's no longer stage information in the app. For years you could see the stage profile and all the other info about the riders and teams. Now there's just replays and highlights.

Odd...it is all there on the webpage version, at least during live streaming.

Granted NBC not so long ago did these goofy shens in the past of broken apps and websites that sort of got fixed as they went. I want to say 2008 they first did streaming of TdF?

I cannot find it anywhere on there. I've been on the app and on the website on my computer. Would you mind posting a link?

The telemetry etc I'm thinking of is all deposited on each stage's player window, when not in fullscreen. Looking in the Android app I don't see all the telemetry anywhere, so maybe they did cut the featureset on mobile down...such as today's St.3:

I miss Phil and Paul. Not the same without them. In Canada we get coverage through Sportnets. Not a fan of Matthew and Robbie. Lots and lots of commercials so the only way to watch this is on tape delay when I can and do fastforward the commercials.

I'll have to check it out on the computer tomorrow when it's on. They got rid of all of that on the iPad as far as I can tell.

This morning on NBC Gold I have a choice of the Mathew & Robbie feed or the Phil & Paul feed. Enjoy.

That's on the Roku Gold app, at least.

Saw it listed on the Android app schedule last night.

The Phill/Paul stream was "NBCSN"....the Matt/Robbie stream was "Ad-free".

Yes, Phil and Paul are on NBCSN. I watch it each morning on my personal laptop on my desk via Sling.

the Paul and Phil version is the same as the TV channel NBC SN feed complete with commercials and covers much less of the race. The NBC Gold app allows you to watch on 2 devices at once. SO you could watch both feeds if you want or have full video on one screen and more info such as profile, news feed etc on the other.

I wonder if they got complaints about not having Phil and Paul on the app so they're doing that as an alternative. I've watched both a bit because I miss them, but there are so many interruptions I can't stand it. I love the coverage on the ad free app.

And I have to say on the commercial version, all the scrolling crap on the bottom and overzealous graphics all over the screen make it too chaotic to watch for me.

If I had a guess, this is the way NBC is phasing Phil and Paul out.

The thing about US TV sportscasting...It is designed for ADD. Constant graphics. Constant scrollers on the bottom. Constant interruptions....nevermind the pace of advertisements (embedded or otherwise). Cycling is just like NFL football to them.

No one in charge evidently thinks viewers enjoy just watching the race or the countryside.

Although admittedly today even the ASO admitted today's stage was a 5 hour long snoozefest. You know you're desperate when you have a video clip on the history of Charles de Gaulle prepared to air during a cycle race.

That is true of all types of entertainment in the US. They cut everything from a small number of cookie cutters. But they are catering to what majority apparently want.

K

I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because NBC Sports / NBC Sports Gold advertised their NBC Sports Gold App product with Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen. The Tours of France with Phil & Paul have been glorious TV of meandering around France with a "Cycling bias". All the French countryside is just glorious. If you're upset over the NBC Sports Gold App email inquiry@cbbb.bbb.org and tell them your feelings. I know I am upset.
