Gaimon's book
Any one else piqued by press about Gaimon's book? I'm thinking about getting it.

You know... I was kinda intrigued by the whole KOM thing, but IMHO he's gone Lemond with the Cancellara thing. I don't like cheats or dopers any more than the next guy, but I can't stand the crusaders who take it upon themselves to single handedly fix the sport and weed out the cheats.

I haven't read this one, however, "Pro Cyclist on $10 dollars a day" was pretty good. He has a tattoo that states "clean" with a bar of soap on his arm. I agree with the crusader sentiment.

I don't lean one way or the other as to who does or doesn't dope or otherwise cheat. It is what it is, and until proven it's all just talk. Not even sure this is entirely what the books about.
Like many movies that people get upset about and want banned or boycotted, when you go see the movie, you find out that the controversial part that was getting discussed in the media really wasn't a large or main part of the movie's theme, scenes or other. I'm hoping the book is the same. I really am not wanting to read a bunch of accusations. I just want a view from someone not at the top.
I went ahead and ordered the book. Whether he was/is a "wannabe" or not, it's a view of professional cycling that you can't get if you participate in the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" mindset.

I actually think the fact that Phil doesn't "make it" makes the book more interesting. He's forced to confront the fact that certain riders are simply better than him and that, ultimately, he just doesn't have what it takes.
The whole Cancellara thing is just a passing comment in the book and accusing him or other suspected cheats is certainly not the main theme of the book (although Phil is certainly willing to express his opinion on various individuals - I'm not even sure Cancellara would make the top 3 in terms of who he offers unfavourable opinions on). I honestly didn't think twice about the Cancellara stuff when reading it and it's been blown massively out of proportion.
