Lawson Craddock has been down and it looks bad for him despite carrying on for now.

70kms. An all French three-man break hovering round +2 mins. All set for a group sprint finish.

Just over 10kms. and a pile up in the peloton halfway back. Nothing serious but reduced numbers in the main bunch.

Quiet day didn't turn out to be so quiet in the last 11kms.

Early finish so you can all go and watch the England v Sweden game.

The result?

There was a measurable time difference between the sprinters and the next pack. Wonder why they didn’t allot the difference.

You can see it in the finish line photo.

You get three seconds now for the time gap. I didn't pay close enough attention to notice what ever you are talking about at the finish. Though 63 people with the same time sort of made me wonder if I'm not correctly understanding how you use that three seconds. Or if there are any if's and's and but's to consider with the rule.

There has to be a three second gap from the last rider in a group to the first rider in the next group for the time difference to be recorded. At 30 mph (a conservative estimate) that converts to 44 yards, or about 20 bike lengths.

That's what I thought..... then I started doubting myself just before I pushed reply. Yeah, I don't think there were any gaps nearly that big from what I remember. If I see it again I'll pay more attention.

Fine for a Sunday group ride. But a TdF peloton at full speed

Stage one, the riders are fresh, the pace is reasonable and so the peloton is large. This is the Tour de France not the Tour de Motorway so the roads are what they are.
Riders take a tumble,.C'est la vie.
