Yeah, I don't understand how that happens.

If I'm on an already squirrelly TT bike, doing 30+ mph, and it's windy and I have a deep front wheel on, I'm definitely not removing both hands from the bars, at any point.

One hand, okay, fine. But both hands? That's madness.

I hope he's able to recover eventually at least. Hate to see anyone hurt bad like that.

I think it was just one hand off the bars. Still, at those speeds and on a TT bike, that seems risky.

Fractured femur, fractured elbow. And some ribs. Fortunately, no mention of a head injury. If he has a miraculous recovery, he could be good for the Vuelta, but that seems unlikely.

Bummer. Winning the Tour is so much more than riding fast in the Tour.

The quote I saw from the press conference said "hands".

Perhaps it's just a bad transcript or a mispeak, I dunno.

If it's two hands, at that speed? Wow.

Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine how much more comfortable on a bike than me Froome is, but still, that speed with TT bike and deep wheel in high winds still seems reckless.

He Is out of the TDF

I’d rather see him in the TDF and see him lose and not to Thomas his rich team teammate.

He did lose the TdF. TdF is not won by just endurance, and certainly not the fastest, but by the best risk management and preperation.

I want to see him lose this year. With no injuries.

This one says again that he took BOTH hands off the bars. I find that hard to believe, though. First, it's unbelievably risky at those conditions, and second, who needs to use both hands to wipe their nose?

Also, I wasn't clear from earlier descriptions if he went sideways into a wall or directly into a wall, but it appears that it was the latter - 54 kph to zero in an instant, according to his Garmin.

Finally, with that kind of collision, plus the fact that he's in intensive care, makes me think that there are also significant internal or head injuries in addition to just the broken bones. I hope I'm wrong.

Thats my worries as well. He has kids at home and this is awful for them. Let’s hope our suspicions are not true.

Just watched a GCN vid talking about Froomes crash and said hes lucky to be alive. Chris lost 4 pints of blood. Thats crazy. 🤕

Pictures like that can be very deceiving with respect to gradient.

Looks like it's downhill, but hard to tell. Might be coming off a steeper section too.

If I remember right, the news reports said that he crashed at the bottom of the descent, so what Flatballer said.

Well not quite. The article did say he took his "hands" off the bar, but it did not stipulate that he took both hands AT THE SAME TIME (which would have been impossible to do on a TT bike when you're hunched over, besides nobody takes both hands off the bar to blow their nose). What could have been the scenario is that he took one hand off the bar to blow his nose, then put the hand back on the bar, then take the other hand off to blow his other nostril hole, then boom!
