Disc vs Rim - Stirring the pot

cyclingweekly.com/news/how-tadej-pogacar-won-tour-de-france-switching-between-disc-and-rim-brakes-its-all-about-the-weight?

He says 300 grams makes a difference and that is why he chooses the bike he does.

If the UCI lowers the bike weight minimun to say 6 kg, then the rim brake bikes could be made even ligther.

Pro rider translation:

"I ride a rim-brake bike on the stages that include intense climbs and screaming descents, because a disc-brake bike weight penalty would make me uncompetitive.

As a GC rider, I use a disc-brake bike on the inconsequential flat stages, because of intense sponsor pressure. After all-pro racing is all about selling stuff, which includes expensive bling to dentists."

Consequence: on the mountain stages, the pros (who have a choice) ride rim brakes on carbon rims, where discs should be a key advantage. Not. On flat stages, where discs are only useful for causing peloton pile-ups among exhausted twitchy novice pros, that is what everyone rides now.
