giro d' italia 2022...fantasyland
this is the (heavily-monitored) thread for all fantasy goings-ons regarding the 2022 giro d' italia. yes...decided to isolate/separate it from the other wacky fantasy threads and will likely do so for both the tdf and vuelta. *shrugs*
if you're interested and just crazy enuff to drop the needle on a wth experience...deadline is omgearly friday, may 6th!!!

I had Hugh in then snubbed him to add some 6 pointers. Might reconsider. Got Lopez in but decided against Joćo for now ...
I put in Craddock and will keep him in.

o miggylo...what to do...? not quite dead to me yet not quite alive either...capable of likely third week heroics and equally capable of
leading the peloton in pavement surfing "how-to" videos.
buchmann...
hindley sure has been quiet since 2020.
jefferson cepeda is on the official dead to me list. i think. memory is fickle but something about goose eggs and cepeda seems familiar.
part of me is happy to see valverde for some of those grippy stages, part of me isn't and wants to see sosa unleashed...possible podium guy.

the last handful of years, tales of brave ulissi would have been my first pick for a giro squad-especially a giro with as much medium chop as this one.
now...? dunno. not feeling it.

some fun riders to speculate on:
christopher juul-jensen
GB's fave
arcas
konovalovas
guarnieri
doull
benedetti
tejada
pronskiy
bol
jj rojas
oomen
de marchi
dowsett
narvaez
modolo
conti
formolo
mollema
thymen
hamilton
knox
sosa
cort
foss
there's always a 6-10 pointer or two or three that makes ridiculous hay in the giro (and the vuelta...the tdf...not so much).

^^ I have Fortunato in, so that spoils my "secret weapon". Well I guess he's an 8 pointer....
6 pointer --> Atila Valter
Formolo looked awesome in basque but how serious are uae for Joćo? How serious am I? Serious point cost ...
I need to look into a four pointer. I want that taco-shefield 4 point 100:1

OK, I have a team. Maybe not THE team but A team. Let the gnashing of teeth and second-guessing begin.
GrainBrain , after Craddock, Barta, and Dombrowski, you only have six spots to fill. Choose wisely!

tired of rolling thru the permutations...barring last-minute inclusions/exclusions from the available riders, here's the giro squadron:
foss---almeida---mollema---sosa---girmay---carr---narvįez-mvdp---benedetti---carapaz
foss---almeida---mollema---sosa---girmay---

Still more thoughts. I feel like I need MvdP instead of Girmay -- and then I can say told you so when Girmay holds ciclamino till Verona.

Happy May 5th, everyone. Don't miss the Friday start! Good luck to all competitors.
I might make a few more crew changes before my Velogames ship sails early tomorrow, aiming to avoid a little sinko de Mayo.

Too late now for changes, forgot it starts today!
I'm ok with the picks, but I wish I could've added Carapaz!
Impressed by ooga-booga 's GC focus! Still waiting to snoop on the other league members.
Almeida
Arensman
Bardet
Landa
Girmay
Van Der Poel
Craddock
Cort
Fortunato

Pictured below is my next to last team. I swapped out MVDP and Girmay in the final round to go more all in with GC folks. I see a lot of you are riding those horses. Pretty sure one of them will win today. You're welcome.
Many resisted the pull of the sprinters who won't make it all the way. A few didn't. one4smoke in particular with both Ewan and Cav may Lord it over the mob for a bit.
I expect to be back of the pack for a while, playing the long game to Verona. And it's a long way.

Jeebus. I felt pretty good at the end of the stage knowing that i had the winner on my team and four other riders in the points. And then i checked the standings and found myself squarely in the middle of the pack. Fun stage and its only the first of many!

ooga-booga is pretty in pink. Towards the bottom of the hour he may execute a Crazy Ivan to clear his baffles of Das Boot on his tail. Those two have a good gap on the chase group of 6-700 somethings. A few of us are still rolling through the neutral start. Hasta Verona, tifosi!

Gosh I was haunted by picking Joćo and Fortunato over Carapaz + 4 pointer. Now I'm like Felix Gall who? Nice pick slcbob .
Pouring one out for one4smoke with Ballerini, Ewan, Kamna. Oh what may have been.
Gonna make sure not to tag people in case they haven't seen. Can't get DQ'd from BF!
