Young Americans
It's been quite a tour for the young Americans. Powless was a breakout breakaway star. McNulty showed himself to be a world-class domestique. Jorgenson almost got himself on the podium twice (4th on stages 10 and 16, the latter one somewhat of a heartbreaker). Kuss placed in the top 10 of the GC and is surely one of the greatest domestiques in the business (though I guess at 27, he's not that young). Quinn Simmons had some strong showings too.
So, what do you think? Here's sort of a poll:
Who is the best American rider today?
Who has the most upside potential for the next few years?
Who is going to be the first of them to win a TdF stage?

Best is really hard to measure.
Most impactful across the tour? Probably Kuss.
Most promising? Probably Simmons.
Powless reminds me a lot of Tejay.

Kuss won last year into Andorra -- but the next one to win? I think Jorgenson. I was gutted to see him slide out when he could've won the stage over Houle. I've seen Vermaerke find himself in breaks just before the tour but crashed out here.
McNulty has looked amazing but he's working for the team.
Favorite rider is Craddock who I hope to see be given freedom in the Vuelta.

I don't know where I got the factoid that Kuss is 8th on GC. He's 18th. But Powless is 13th. Not bad, considering he did that on his own by getting into breaks, rather than by having a team of domestiques working for him.

Maybe we'll see Magnus Sheffield, Larry Warbasse, and Will Barta at la Vuelta.
