Will Ullrich's 2005 3rd place be taken away?

So, if it is proven that Ullrich actually used all those products during the 2005 Tour de France, will they take away his 3rd podium place and give it to... Mancebo???

What about Basso? Say he gets nailed too, and loses his 2nd place 2005 Tour finish as well as his 2006 Giro title? So what, Vino gets second and Levi 3rd?

Maybe not. They never bothered to rescind Rumsas' 3rd place in the 2002 Tour.

The allegations against Basso's are all post 2005 Tour, so shouldn't affect that event. Mancebo's seem to be as well, but when Ullrich's alleged 2005 Tour doping allegations surfaced I immediately thought of the irony of Mancebo advancing to the 2005 Tour podium from operation Puerto revelations.

No... The riders did not test positive for those races so they would not lose their medals..... however I wonder how Basso and the Giro will turn out. It will depend if they can prove he has been using BEFORE and DURING the Giro.

The same with Floyd.... he may be stripped of the TDF victory but his other wins this year are safe.

Will every rider from 1903 be stripped of their victories? Nope... as long as you can get away with it you are the champion

Two races in bike racing... the race on the pavement and the race in the lab. You have to win both to be on the podium.

While Uhlrich didn't test positive, there is some indication the Puerto operation may have found evidence of his doping in the '05 tour. If the evidence is strong enough he doped in the Tour, he could still be penalized.

Good point meb, to which I'd add: remember, David Millar didn't test positive, and yet his ITT World Championship was stripped from him. Depending on what information is presented against him, and what he admits to upon seeing that information, Ullrich could still be penalized.

My recollection is that the UCI regs have a limitations period for bringing charges of doping violations, that's now passed for the 1999 tour.

Screw taking away positions in races. Ban them for life. Game over!

Hell, let's go back and give the '88 overall to Steven Rooks.

Has a doping allegation been filed against Lance?

True, there's an 8 year statute of limitations, however, that would put a 1999 race within the time limits. However, since Lance didn't actually test positive for anything-- certainly not under UCI Rules-- there's no chance of a doping allegation being filed against him.

Millar owned up and confessed. That was one of the main reasons it was stripped from him.
