What's going on?

Koffee Brown is gone. Apparently on less than friendly terms and now I see Euro is banned?

I certainly never had a prob with Koffee. I usually ignored Euro. While he frequently got people's goats to be honest I always sorta thought it was that person's fault. Euro was provocative but didn't seem abusive. He'd personally try to rankle people, especially fans of Armstrong and Landis, but that was his act and could easily be ignored.

I'll probably get told to shut up or be ignored but I'm curious.

Koffee was the best, and most valued member of the Forums over the past several years. Bike Forums without Koffee is like breakfast without coffee. Not nearly the same.

Guys such as Euro can not be banned. They simply reappear with new names. However, because Koffee was disrespected by the "powers that be", I suspect she may never return to the Forums. Sad.

Alan,

You suggested in another thread that another bike forum should be created that is more serious. Why not just create a special section on BF that is exclusive to paid subscribers like you and me. Those of us with red stars are clearly serious about cycling. That would exclude the drive by trolls that you're always talking about, since there are plenty of other free discussion boards where they can rant.

So how bout it? Who's in favor of a "Red Star Only" Forums Section? And not just "For Sale" threads, but general cycling topics too.

Baldy 08-14-06 11:47 AM

What happened to Euro?

rando 08-14-06 01:04 PM

I thought they both ran off together to start an anti-american anti-k-mart bike forum.

You know <pees into the wind> I actually appreciated Euro's perspective. Although arguing with him was like talking to a brick wall, at least he fought the dominant paradigm. But he tended to take things a bit too far.

Precisely. Plus he had all those anger management issues...

Man, first they turn down Sin City a couple of knotches with a suspension, and now banning Euro? This place is going to get seriously dull.

Most of Euro's posts were simply thorn in the wall contrarian opinions, purposefully calculated to stir things up. Only rarely did he step over the line, and become inappropriate. And the guy obviously knew something about riding a bike, and provided an alternative point of view. I think BF is the poorer.

merlinextraligh 08-14-06 03:12 PM

oh and Walter, shut up. (I didn't want you to feel ignored):)

EURO had a red star; and he knows his stuff. EURO’s realism is a refreshing break from Alan and patentcad’s fairy tale land of Lance worship.

1. I reported someone to a mod for a personal attack
2. The mod said 'sort it out yourselves'
3. I said 'great, so I can attack anyone I like now?'
4. Mod said 'don't screw with me'
5. I kept screwing and screwing and screwing with the mod until they banned me

I'm not scared of a stupid jumped-up little fool who gets a kick out of being a moderator on a bicycle-related web forum. Especially one who says 'do you want a ban?'. Of course I'm going to reply 'bite me'.

MaryAnn 08-14-06 05:10 PM

Could someone please fill me in. How do you all know Koffee and Euro are 86'd? I don't read the posts daily but I know who they are for sure and I had no clue until I clicked onto this thread. WHAT HAPPENED? They were very active last week when I was going back and forth a couple of times a day.
What gives?

Also, has anyone else had a great deal of trouble getting the Bikeforums to function properly in the past two day? I keep getting a message to try later. I can pull anything else up on my server that I've tried.
So I doubt it's my computer.

Helmet Head 08-14-06 05:16 PM

If you look at any thread started by Koffee Brown, you will see that the OP is now owned by "Guest". You can't find any posts owned by her.

If you look at any EURO post, you will see his name is marked "banned".
But, now we know he's back as CAPTAINTORTOISE. I, for one, am glad he's here.

Now, how do we get Koffee back?

Welcome back Cap'n. I may take issue with you on occasion, but it would be very dull if otherwise.

If you figure that one out, you'll instantly qualify for a PhD in psychology. I think I understand the dynamcs that were at work, but I'm not quite crass enough to post it in a public forum.

It's the play at the plate, he takes the wind up, she cocks the bat and stares him in the eye, he uncoils a screaming slider, low and inside, She unloads, "WHACK", the leather howls off the ball in searing pain. It's outta her, clears the centerfield fence, say good night Dick!

Good night Dick ;)

I'm with Merlin. I liked reading Euro's posts and I agree that he would step over the line and I agree that he obviously knew something about riding a bike. I think BF is the poorer without Euro and Koffee. Both were enjoyable, but would push the envelope.

It's too bad what's been going on lately. I lurked since July 05, and joined this year. BF has definitely changed in that time. At least the Road Forum.

Thanks Helmet Head, that definitely helps me know what's going on. But can't Koffee Brown do the same thing and come back like EURO?
Why wouldn't that work?

It may be a personal preference vs a technical issue. She may not want to come back.

14max 08-14-06 08:24 PM

Euro seems to be the BikeForums version of a roach...

As I understand it from reading many threads...she chose to leave and chose to have her posts deleted. She could come back any time she likes.
