Rasmussen on Menchov
Interesting comment at the end concerning DM.....
"I am very happy with today," said the skinny Dane. "Now there is no doubt about who is the captain of this team is. I stayed close to Valverde because he had another teammate up there. I felt like it was a victory for me to be able to fight back the 25 times Valverde tried to attack. I felt very clear in the head today seeing the tactics of the race. It was disappointing that Menchov couldn't get his ass over the Galibier. I think it's a climber's Tour."
I don't believe I've heard that calling out before.....

I saw this too, if that quote/translation (Ras speaks english, so I am assuming that is what he said, and it isn't a translation, but), is true, that is hilarious to me as a fan, but it has to be disconcerting for the team. Anyone know if there is a video or audio clip of the quote? I know there was some bashing of a Levi quote the other day, but the video clarified that how the text read, wasn't what he meant, so perhaps this suffers from the same . . . . at any rate, it is funny.

Menchov has always struggled in the big mountains in the TDF. I don't know why people thought he would magically become a much better climber than he has been. Guess it must have been that one Vuelta, eh?

Wonder if they'll have live coverage of Denny choking the chicken?

Given what I've seen of Rusmussen this year I'd have to say he isn't one to hide what he truly feels. I don't think it's arrogance or anything it's just that he doesn't have any need to bull**** around. It reminds me a bit of Lance but I'll admit I'm not an expert on cycling psychology. Maybe the thin air in the mountains just got to his head

I liked his quote; "with all due respect there is no Lance or Ullrich in this year's tour". When asked about his time trial difficulties in 05.

Rasmussen is very smart. He never panicked on stage #9 when being attacked on the climb. He ran his own race and was leading the contenders in the final km up the rise to the finish.

not smart enough to remember how he lost 14 minutes while TT'ing in the 05 TDF. they guy is a monster on the climbs, but should tone it down a bit until after the TT. just my thoughts. later.
