McEwen report?- Stage 8 (spoiler...sort of)

Did anyone hear anything about McEwen regarding Stage 8. He was out of time limit and has been eliminated. He was one of 3 eliminated on time. Even though he's a sprinter, he's never seemed to have trouble making the time limit in the mountains before. Was wondering if he was ill or injured? Anyone here anything?

According to cyclingnews he said he never really recovered from knee injury.

Thanks for the info. According to the article, sounds like he was hurt worse than he gave appearances.

Like ada said, the injuries he sustained from the first day of the tour apparently really stuck with him.

I applaud him for at least deciding to finish the stage rather than simply abandon.

He said the injury from day 1 on the patelar tendon affected him more on the climbs than the sprints.
He attempted to adjust his riding position but the unbalanced pedalling wasn't effective.
Since he'd never failed to finish before, he decided that even though he wouldn't make the cut, he wasn't going to abandon-they have to force him out-so he finished the stage over an hour behind Rassmussen.

McEwan is out..... :(

he wasnt realy in the hunt for the green jersey anymore, but its still sad to see a man out.

looks like its just going to be Zabel to make Boonen work for it now.

I was wondering what was wrong with Robbie. After that explosion that we saw in the sprint on Stage 1 he hasn't really been involved in any of the others stages. Too bad because he really makes things interesting the way that he rides. Boonen and Thor use big leadouts all the time but Robbie bobs and weaves through the crowd and always seems to come from nowhere during sprints. For my money he's the most exciting sprinter to watch and if you don't agree he'll headbutt you.

shattered that he's out. such a disappointment that he crashed in stage 1 and never recovered...

apart from winning the stage, that is...

the next day was always going to be a lot more painful. adrenaline is good for that.

I just heard this (I just got home from work) and I am a bit bummed by it. I am a big Robbie fan. However I am glad he just didn't abandon. To me, he is a great example of what sport and competition is all about and I take my hat off to him. He is one tough little mother.

Cheers,

Brian
