By the way, IMO, the TDF rules! I watched lance win his last one and it was my first. Im almost to the point to purchase the other 6 just to watch.

He never was "The Man" for CSC. He's a domestique who happens to be able to time trial very well.

I'm convinced he's actually trying to get as many last place finishes as he can, just because, well..... he can.

Once he's done his job for CSC each day, whether it's ferrying bottles to the GC guys, taking his turn pulling them across the flats, etc, then I think he just hangs in with the last group so he can do his job again the next day.

As dry a wit as he has, there are times when he seems so unenthusiastic about riding. Checking out the daily interview with him and Horner on velonews.com, they are night and day. Horner is a chatterbox who you can tell just loves being in the Tour. Zabriskie may just be disguising his love of the sport behind his brevity-is-the-soul-of-wit personality.

In any case, he's still in the race, right? :)

Now if he can just hold it to Paris!

I'm afraid his TTing will be his undoing; I'm just not sure he has it in him to tank the TT's.

Yeah, I asked this same question last week and got the same answers. I was remembering Zabriske in the 2005 TDF and how he torched the prologue. I assumed because of his crashes and problems during the 2005 and 2006 TDF's that he actually was more than a domestique and that he was going to begin to reach his potential in the 2007 TDF. Not the case I guess. He seems to view road racing as just another job. I'm not really sure what he likes to do. Maybe he was somewhat serious about that mountain biking comment.

I mean, dont get me wrong, they averaged 22.8 MPH yesterday in the ALPS , I cant average that in the flats with 20 MPH winds with me. I wouldnt make it to the top of the first climb without having a cardiac embolizsm. They are all "the mans" or the elites. However, I thought he was one of the leaders thats all.

Every interview with him is hilarious in a very dry sense.

Think of his job in the tour... he's go to go to the back, grab a ton of stuff and bang it up to the front of the pack again, rain or shine, flat or mountain. He's essentially going on "breakaways" all the time, but has to drop back again because the "boss" gets thirsty.

I think Dave has been seriously disillusioned with the sport after what has happened to his buddy, Floyd. :mad: One can hardly blame him.

The Dave Z interviews are pretty funny. He seems a bit down though, and it seems that even though he has accepted the domestique role, he's not too happy to be there. I understand he's dry, but there's certainly a difference. That guy doing the interviews is pretty bad. It's almost as bad as that SNL skit when Chris Farley interviewed Paul McCartney, only not nearly as funny.

No, they do not receive any prize money. That's oldee tymee Tour De France myth and race organizers are always trying to avoid any official publicity surrounding the Lantern Rouge placing.

Doh! A lot of people were surprised to see him ride the tour at all. He had big performances in the Giro and the Dauphine. He just started the Tour tired and hurt. Prolly should've skipped it.

He didn't even find out if he was on this year's CSC Tour team until a couple of days before the race. That might be part of his disillusionment. He's also got some tendonitis in his knee. At least he got that basket of apples for finishing last in one of the stages.

I poked around yesterday about those rumors that David Millar and Dave Zabriskie will leave their respect Saunier Duval and CSC squads to ride for Jonathan Vaughters' Team Slipstream next year. At this point, they appear to be factual. Horner may be the third man to join that group.

Though saying a rumor is factual isn't exactly going out on a limb.

As for Horner, he seems happy w/ Lotto and in one velonews diary interview sounded like he wanted to stay in Europe as long as his legs would allow.

Supposedly the Z-man changed riding shoes shortly before the tour and he has since developed tendonitis in one of his knees (one that he has several screws in and is somewhat unforgiving) or at least this is a reply he gave in an interview today.
