I agree it would be awesome, but no man is going to lap the champs unless he is riding a motorcycle; and (for a yellow jersey contender) to attempt so would earn him the ire of the peloton.

Its not like its every man for themself and they only race the TDF. A rider/team may need to form alliances with any other rider/team in future races. While these "gentleman's rules" are seemingly arbitrary, breaking them will almost certainly not go unpunished.

brian allen sounds like a sore loser with a dud bet on LL. suck it up, mate, and deal with the fact that yellow jersey positions don't change on the last day. LL had his chances.

PS levi deserved his time penalty just like Vino did. the tour management don't bother slapping the time penalty on domestiques carrying water bottles, as they are no threat to the GC, which is where such a push really does matter.

gentleman's rules do exist in the sport, like when the four man break in the lead stopped and waited for riders who tangled with the dog on stage 16? 17? same goes for natural breaks, or flatting in the last few miles... don't you like gentleman's rules? are you anti-gentleman? "treat others as you would like them to treat you" is a good motto to live by, unless you're a cvnt who enjoys pain...

Paul Sherwin was certainly not to happy about that incident. Yesterdy ligget was saying well if he didnt get the push it would have cost more than 10 seconds so you have to balance it out. Personally i dont think there is any balancing when you are cheating, it was clearly against the rules and he should have been tossed.

Sherwen speaks from experience as a rider. He called it a professional foul, in fact. Liggett suggested - probably correctly - that LL would have lost more without the push than with. But all in all, it is certainly better than doping, wouldn't you say, as an infraction everyone can live with? And it happens all the time in the longer races.

BTW, it was clearly uphill, though on a very small gradient.

After the doping, scandals and denigration to the sport, the "gentlemen's agreement" not to attack on the promenade to Paris was rather refreshing to me. A little good sportsmanship was nice to see for a change. The race is agreed to be over on the stage before the ride into Paris, so it is over. At least something to feel good about.
