It seems like all the bikes are CF now, and I know that the winner has been on a CF bike for a lot of years. Just wondering when the last aluminum or steel or ti bike was even entered into the tour.

you can thank Lance and trek for that. during many of the lance years there were quite a few aluminum bikes.

Cycling News has an archive of pro bikes that they have featured. You would probably find that interesting. Fwiw Backstedt had a Ti frame when he rode for Bianchi. And Boonen was using an aluminium Specialized - don't know if he rode it in the tour though.

CSC was still using the alu soloists for some of the riders until fairly recently

it's not that interesting. peugeot no longer makes road bikes, much less high-end ones. they only make hybrids, city bikes, and a few mountain bikes.

2009. Gilberto is riding an aluminum Guerciotti this year.
1986. Lemond and Hinault were the first to ride carbon frames in the mountain stages. I think La Vie Claire had the first TVT carbon frames that were repainted.

I didn't know carbon was in the tour so early - I recall that Lemond won the 89 World Road Championship on a carbon bike, and was the only one in the race using one.

I wouldn't be suprised if the TT bikes used by some pros on smaller teams will be aluminum for years to come.

Mavic neutral support continues to haul around a roof rack full of Cannondale CAAD9s. Teams in the Tour are so well supported it's rare these bikes ever get used, but in smaller races where it's common for a team to have just a single support car the loaner bikes occasionally get some exercise.

you were expecting that poster to say anything positive about LA? I've only been watching the pro forum for two weeks but it's the same LA hating schtick every day. Thankfully the other forums on this site are pretty friendly.

I hate Lance as well as anyone else but there are some things I will not blame him for. This is like blaming Greg LeMond for Jon Boyer's losing the 1982 Worlds.
