Cool cycling shots & poses

Soccer has spectacular goals, football has amazing touchdowns, baseball has its great strikes, tennis its serves ... all of these make for awesome shots, posters, and subsequently, iconic images for publicity. As one article pointed out, the best cycling can come up with is the victory fist pump at the end. Most of cycling involves grimacing, panting, and very weary faces.

What are some of the most iconic images (single pictures, not videos) in cycling?

With the exception of finish line shots, almost all involve expressions of suffering:

Lance looking over his shoulder at Ullrich

Merckx climbing in the '69 Tour

Graham Obree supermaning the washing machine for an hour

The look on just about any kid's face the first time the training wheels come off.......

There are so many more.

i absolutely love this... he's not even on a bike and he's a badass

there are a million great photos of lance in today's media age, but i think this one, love him or hate him, sums it up pretty well.

There is one picture of the Dane who fell off the edge of the road, and they strung together their tires to pull him back up

Do you guys know the one I am talking about?

Unfortunately, rarely do the good crashes get filmed or photographed from a close perspective. They would make for some memorable if gruesome pictures.

From the Timm Kolln photography website. These were taken right after a race.

Cavendish, Aldag, McEwan, Cancellara, Shleck. There's more on the site.

This is the one that I think about with Pantani.

When ever I hear Paul or Phil throw out the ol' "dancing on the pedals" line, I can't help but think about Pantani.

RIP, Marco.
