Saiz slams Bruyneel and Riis

I can see where Saiz is going with Riis (although I don't agree with him), but I think his 'attack' on Bruyneel is uncalled for as Azevedo IS a better addition to the team than Heras - Azevedo's TTT abilities are much better than Roberto's.

Manolo "the perpetual loser" Saiz? :)

Devil 07-18-04 03:47 PM

I hope you're not inferring that I ever regarded Saiz as a "perpetual loser".

Laggard 07-18-04 03:54 PM

Inside joke. It wasn't you. Anyone with a Molteni avatar knows better.

Probably just mid-race frusturation. USPS and Armstrong were saying that Acevado might be a better help before the Tour even started, and I don't think Saiz said anything about it then.

azevedo and heras are probably 1 for 1. CSC is one of the best teams in the peloton, period. and has been for several years of riis' reign.

I think Saiz is (once again) pathetic in his reasoning. He just seems like a very sore looser, who cant accept when he makes mistakes. Slamming Bruyneel for saying that Azevedo is better than Heras and calling him disrespectfull is a joke. Especially when you see his own statements later about Riis & Ferretti. What is up with that? He just cant stand that Riis has created a better team in much shorter time and with fewer money than others have done.

Not only that, but his statements about CSC being 'lucky' and depending on just Basso makes you wonder where he has been for the last few years. It much about a clash of personalities. Here is what Jaksche had to say about changing from ONCE to CSC:

Jaksche,

ONCE was very professional. Here [at CSC] it's absolutely professional, but with Manolo he did everything. The tactics... everything. If he said attack, you attacked, even if sometimes it wasn't the right moment. With Bjarne [the riders] have more self confidence and more responsibility to make their own decisions

Saiz is just protecting his rider, Heras, who is having a very poor Tour and is probably depressed. Coaches in all sports do that. There is no doubt that Heras was crucial to USPS in years past. It's (more than) obvious that USPS has driven on w/o him but that doesn't diminish what Heras meant when he was there. Saiz seems complimentary to other USPS domestiques and LA himself.
