Someone is still cruising around in Emeryville CA in a Rock Racing Escalade as I see them once a month or so.

At the moment, indications are that the Spanish end of the newly merged outfit would play a logistical and support role when the team is racing in Europe.
I wonder if that was a big part of the UCI hangup. That would be a big investment for RR to have to make. (Plus, you can't get Cadillacs and Bluebird coaches in Europe so maybe they planned to ship them over and UCI didn't like that idea - can you imagine Escalade support vehicles on those tiny roads?)

Yes, that I would like to see- just for the humor of it. I can just picture an Escalade stuck between two 400 year old stone buildings.

Sadly, the UCI has rejected their application for a Continental license.

CyclingNews Article

I understand why many people find Michael Ball annoying but I say he's been good for the sport in spite of all that.

UCI President Pat McQuaid vigorously denied allegations that Rock Racing's license bid failed for political reasons. "I don't know the details but I would say that's pure bull****," McQuaid said. "I wasn't involved in the decision but that wouldn't be a reason. That's all bull****."
Tell 'em, Pat.

"I'm sure there are a lot reasons why they didn't give it to us," he added. "Probably one of the mistakes I made was to consider Landis on the team. That really hurt our chances more than anything."

Gee, I'd sign up for Ball's team in a heartbeat with support like that from the big guy. Good set of priorities there, Michael. How about more money and effort into team support and less into cars and hookers, junior?

He meant because of all of the political baggage associated with him.

Yeah, I know, but it was Ball's choice to hire Landis and now it's Floyd's fault Rock didn't get a continental license. Anyone could see that coming, don't you think? I'm just saying it seems a little inconsistent to hire someone one day and blame him for screwing up your plans the next. No wonder Rock's such a revolving door.
