I think Boonen will finally win. Cavendish, Hushovd, and Petacchi have all had some early-season health problems, but Boonen has gotten through the early part of the season unscathed. There are a ton of big names who could pull off an attack (Cancellara, Pozzato, Flecha, Gilbert), but I'll guess that it comes down to a sprint this year.

Podium: Boonen, Petacchi, Boasson Hagen.

This is one of my favorite races. Thanks UNIVERSAL SPORT Im picking BMC and Alessandro Ballan With big George helping out, I really like the makeup of this team. Cavendish seems banged up I think he crashed last week and had dental problems a short time back. But ya gotta pull for Cancellera after that monster ride two years ago.

EBH, Boonen and Farrar....not sure of the podium order though. Sprint finish with Boonen, Thor and Farrar would be interesting.

I would love to see Boassen Hagen pull something out of the bag. Not ruling out Cavendish despite the early season form, but let's face it the seasons starts here.

Wow...Oscar Freire came out of nowhere! Great sprint finish...I thought Boonen would pull it out, but Freire just dropped the hammer from 200 meters.

Did not see that coming.

How old is Oscar? 57-58?

Today was a simple case of one man being stronger than the others at the end. Impressive win by Freire.

I'm still confused as to why Garzelli was towing everybody up the Poggio.

He was sick.

I was a bit surprised to see Pozzato give up on his late attack the way that he did. He must have know that, given the pedigree of the sprinters behind him(Boonen, Freire, Pettachi et al) he wouldn't have much of a chance in a bunch finish. Why not just go for broke, then? What did he have to lose?

When you're out of go juice you're out. What's the point of dangling off the front for an extra 2 seconds? He was caught with 1km to go. There's no point in putting in the extra effort because his breakaway was doomed. After 295km, you can't blame the guy.

Yeah, I thought Pozzato did go for broke. It looked more to me like he didn't have much left in the tank, but he tried the late attack anyway because he knew it was his only chance to win. I think you were seeing a guy with dead legs, not a guy who wasn't trying. I mean, obviously guys sit up when the peloton is 5 seconds back or so and the catch is inevitable, but before that point he was giving it his best shot.
