I don't think "Classics" are BS. I love the Classics.

Just not convinced these stages are good for the Grand(est) Tour.

Excellent day for Hushovd, Cancellara, Andy Schleck and Evans. Pretty much a disaster for Armstrong.

I believe Armstrong only punctured once. If I've read everything correctly he's about a minute down on Contador? things are a bit confused on cyclingnews.

Just once I think, but in a terrible spot, it cost him at least a minute. Before the puncture he was 40 seconds ahead of Contador I think.

I think it was twice, but I'm not 100% sure.

Would you rather have had the typical first week flat stage, doomed break caught at 2 km, with a field sprint? We'll have plenty of those.

This ended up being a great stage, adding a new dimension to the TDF. Does add a bit of randomness and luck, but definitely more interesting than another flat stage.

Vino dropped Contador in the final run in costing COntador a few seconds.

I guess it's the randomness that's getting to me.

It was one of the most interesting days of racing I've seen but to lose a rider like Schleck...

^ actually 20 seconds if you assume Contador stays in contact with that group with Vino's help.

I agree, it was a good day for him overall, he's still clearly the favourite to win and he lost a lot of at least halfway serious contenders...

Lost 55 seconds.

Where was all the RadioShack help? He only had Popo. Looks like Horner finished another 20 seconds down, but he wasn't with Armstrong after the flat, and no other Radio Shack riders appeared to be anywhere around Armstrong. Just scanning the Velonews results, everyone else on Radio Shack looks to have finished way back. Not the kind of team support Armstrong is used to.

They say Cantador caught a flat on his back tire at the end...nothing Vino could do for him at that point but he could have held up pushing the pace to the line but I doubt he knew he had dropped him.

What a stage man...I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out wtf and where the hell everyone was...an interesting and exciting stage to be sure...but sucks to have dumb luck help or hurt your chances in the Tour... those who didnt crash/flat were lucky...and those who did(Lance, Chavanel, Shleck and even Cantador at the end though he was lucky the whole way through) have to work harder in the next stages or are totally out of this thing.

ETA to the above: Yea he had to work mostly on his own to make up that time and catch the group ahead of him...huge effort and pretty cool to see him power on his own. Either way...there wasn't enough time left to catch up much even if he had team help.

Good day for Contador. Avoided a major mine field. Also, while he lost 1:13 to A Schleck, with F Schleck out, the one two Saxo Bank combination is no longer a problem for Contador.

Evans also had a very good day.
