So what happens if Lance wins?
This year's TDF seems incredibly important for every GC contender OTHER than LA.
If LA doesn't win, nobody will think of him as any less of a rider.
But if he does win, everyone else is screwed. Anyone who wins in 2011 and beyond, as well as AC, Sastre, and Pereiro in 06-09, will be seen as guys who won only because LA either didn't compete or wasn't in shape.
That's my take on it at least.

Actually, I think there's a chance in hell he could be top 10 again. But a better chance he's going to get flayed in the mountains and drop out.
Regardless I'd like to see him do well as it's good for the sport, his foundation and us guys the same age.

If Lance wins, looks for the North and South Poles to reverse polarity. Rivers will flow uphill. Great White Sharks will blockade ships carrying tofu. The 2018 World Cup will be hosted by the Seychelles. The Greek economy will lead the world out of recession. etc. Perhaps Jens will favor us with his thoughts on this at some point also.

I think it could happen, but the only way would be Conta****** doing something really mentally stupid, which he's totally capable of.
I sort of hoped this thread would be about what happens if he wins now, and if people believe he's actually clean now.
I like LA but I have some doubts as to whether he was always clean. I do think the risk is too big, and the reward too little for him to be doping now. Nowadays, by losing he wins. By showing he still has it at 38, passing all the extra tests, it makes the years where he could have been doping more conceivable that he wasnt. Because if he can still come this close in a cleaner era, he possibly could have done it clean against a bunch of dirty cheats.

Should at least be interesting. His latest twitter update or facebook status update says: "Last hard ride before the TdF. Test on the Col de la Madone. Record time? No. Close to it? Yes. I'm ready."
Who knows how close he came to his record time but at the very least, it means he's in shape and probably as ready as he can be at this point. I think he'll come in at 4th or 5th overall myself, but we'll see.

I do agree that as long as LA plays within the rules, there is really no result that would change opinions of his winning years (notice how I worded that?). If he were to blow up on a mountain, you could question whether it was smart for him to ride in 2010, but that wouldn't change 1999-2006.
But if by some turn of events, Lance does win the race I don't think that has any effect on riders who won it when he did not compete. And if you are suggesting that AC's win last year is somehow tainted becasue LA was not in shape, you are wrong. LA showed up to the start line. It was his job to be in shape. He came in third to AC & AS. End of story.
