The way he looked left and right behind him before the finish line not even pedalling anymore (!) for the last couple seconds was just pure humiliation. It looked like he was surprised himself where everyone else was.

I'm not sure if I should applaud Hushovd for having the balls to go for the win or criticize him for not just sticking to Pettachi's wheel and focusing 100% on the green jersey. He's on my fantasy team, so I'll criticize.

Actually, I'm an idiot for not getting Cav. I had a feeling the early season troubles weren't going to matter. I played it safe and I'll pay for that.

He may just be faster than any of the sprinters I've ever seen, and I've been watching a while. Maertens? Maybe not yet, but the boy is really, really quick.

Dumb American question: When do you kiss three times and when 2? Contador and Petachi go 1,2 on the podium girls checks. Schleck is a left, right, left kinda guy apparently. What's the diff - a romance language vs tutonic kind of thing?

Not dumb at all. We Brits have no clue about this either. I think two or three is acceptable, only one is a definite sign of imbecility.

And it's important to make contact with their cheeks rather than their checks, LOL. Otherwise they might think you're robbing them.

I think left-right is more common, but it may be different regionally. Maybe in Luxemburg three kisses are standard.

They didn't, but I just watched an etiquette video and if they had both been French it could have happened and that would have been OK. I also learned that there is also a 1,2,3,4 kiss, but that is ONLY practiced in Southern France. So much to learn...

My track record precedes me.

Good call on Dean.

Not sure if I've ever seen anyone with his top-end speed. Cipo and Peta included.

Cav's win was very McEwen like. He's getting better and better tactically. Losing Renshaw may have been a benefit for him in the long run. He's turning into truly great one. Last two wins without the normal Columbia dominating leadout. Very impressive.

Apparently this is a common question:

Sometimes, riders receive two pecks, and sometimes three or four, which can result in awkward lunges or banged noses.

“I never know what to do at that point and, to tell you the truth, a lot of the girls don’t know what to do with me, either,” said the American David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Transitions. “It’s always a bit strange, but the girls are beautiful, so no one probably notices if something goes wrong. It’s a tradition. They steal all the attention.”
