Popo's house raided by the popo

https://sports.yahoo.com/sc/news;_ylt...-popovych-raid

MILAN (AP)—Lance Armstrong’s RadioShack teammate Yaroslav Popovych has had his house in Italy raided by police as part of a doping investigation.

Italian media reported that police and custom officials raided the house in Tuscany on Thursday and that computers and mobile phones were confiscated, along with unspecified substances.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the search warrant was issued by public prosecutor Bendetto Roberti, who is leading several doping investigations in Italy.

Popovych recently testified in front of a grand jury in Los Angeles as part of an ongoing American investigation into doping in cycling.

Popovych rode with Armstrong for the Discovery Channel team in 2005, Astana in 2009 and RadioShack this year.

What rider would be stupid enough to keep his juice kit at home?

Maybe they knew something and waited until after he testified so he'd also face a perjury charge.

Who says they were looking for "juice". They might be much more interested in receipts, voicemail recordings, e-mails, etc.

I've long thought that the best chance of defeating doping is by using police/detective methods; observation, wire-tapping and things like that. Just testing blood/urine or even the bio-pass obviously isn't enough. Also, sure people like Contador are pretty slick in press conferences, but I'd like to know how long he manages to keep his mouth shut in a real police interrogation...

You've got to keep it somewhere, and in a spot where you can access it every day.

Plus, don't forget at least one big name (Millar) got busted in a hotel raid. I may be wrong but I believe the Festina team got caught the same way (hotel and team vehicle raid).

If it was me ... in a coffee can underneath the sink in the mens room at the local Mom & Pop cafe, in a box in the garage of my very close friend that I've known since childhood, etc, etc. Be creative. Practically anywhere is better than at home.

AFAIK most doping programs don't require daily ingestion/injection so the access issue is reduced somewhat. Going somewhere seemingly innocuous once or twice a week to dose would not be difficult, even if you were being followed.

Good question though - anybody familiar enough with current doping techniques to provide frequency information?

My concern is where ever you end up putting it outside of your own house is an increased chance of it being found randomly or someone turning you in.
Your house is secure and controlled which is good. But clearly links to you and can be search if you become a person of interest in a doping investigation.
Someplace out is less secure which is bad but potentially gives you plausible deniability and might not be searched if you become a person of interest.

Which is better, who knows? Not cheating is easiest and of course safest.
