Hehe, touche. You are, of course, correct. I did mean "this week"

I do agree he has a very good chance of winning, by the way, but there's no way he's locked up two Grand Tours this early.
Me neither. I'd like to see him try to get a Giro/Tour double. I dont think he'll be the favorite to win the Tour after the Giro, however.

Except Schleck, Menchov, Sammy Sanchez, etc....
Depends how you look at his performance last year. Just on the face of it, AS was very close to him and could be a real challenger. However, if you believe - as I do - that the reason last year was so close was b/c of AC being weak, then no one can really match up to him when he is on top form. I think Nibbles will probably be the one to do so, in a year or two.

Even if he aces the Giro, it's going to be tough to recover fully in about a month, while facing what may be a pair of well-rested Schlecks and other rivals in July....
That is what will make it interesting. In peak form, I dont this AS can challenge AC (as explained above), but I am not sure if AC is that much better that he'll be able to compete with AS and others a month later. Definitely, he'll be the underdog if he does do the TdF this year.

But it will make for some great racing, for sure and I'm totally stoked about the possibility that it may happen.

So much for the idea that the TOC is a tough race.

How tough can the TOC be if they cancelled the first stage because of a little snow?

It was snow on top of ice. 6 support motorcycles crashed on the course. Others gave up and had to be trucked back.

If I recall correctly the conditions changed during the final Time Trial of last years TDF. That complicates figuring out id AS was good or AC was off. I'm also inclined to think it was AC being off. If that was the case it creates a problem for other contenders. There are a handful that might be as good on the climbs, save for that one time trial those others are set to lose minutes in the TTs. That gives AC a huge advantage, he does not need to win in hte mountians, just limit his losses. If he scares the others enough that they fail to attack it all but hands the race to AC.

Schleck seems to be the only guy who might be able to match him with those bursts. We'll see what happens at the TdF if AC is cleared.

Any idea what gears AC used on Mt. Etna?
